A Brief Exam Rundown.

Some of y'all have been asking me about my exams/schedule, so I figured I would provide a little rundown of what's going on in the next few weeks. :)

Fun exam schedule:
Monday the 6th- Criminal
Thursday the 9th- Torts
Monday the 13th- Contracts
Thursday the 16th- Property

All exams are at 2pm and run about 4 hours long each.

Did I mention they're the only grade you get all semester?

(Final exams are the only grade you get all semester.)

Back to studying!

50 Posts Fun.

Here's a little random/listy fun for my 50th post.

What a fun break from studying! (photos via this amazing site)

I believe:

We all have a little rebel child inside of us.

Jesus loves us just as much on Saturday night as He does Sunday morning.

This looks like heaven.

The idea and character of Atticus Finch shouldn't be all that fictional.

I could very well be a good bartender/cheap therapist.

Everything about this photo makes me happy.

I need one of these in my life.

Life is best when barefoot.

Yet, I adore boots..and flats..and heels...and my Asics...oh, and sandals!

Oh... my.

Been there, read that.

Thanksgiving. And All Its Glory.

I hope everyone had wonderful Thanksgivings!

Warning: This post is all over the place. Kinda like me. Thanks and love- Mgmt. :)

Sorry it's been awhile since my last post, but it's a crazytown over here in law school. Just an out-of-control crazytown! I've determined a few things about being a law student here recently. Of course, I'll share:

I am a really boring person.
My life is somewhat consumed with outlining, studying, reading, and being boring.
Outlining is a slight form of evil. Definitely needed/helpful, but tedious, time-consuming, and...boring.
(Noticing a trend?)
I am counting down to December 16th at 6pm.
Because starting at 6:01pm on Thursday, December 16th, I am going to (hopefully) regain my status as a normal human-being. At least until January 18th.
I will probably still be boring.
But at least I can leave the library, toss burn my outlines, and spend time with my family and friends!

Anyways! That's just a little update on law school. My Thanksgiving was pretty great! Last weekend, I got to spend some time with some pretty great people in Clemson, cook out some good food, watch the Clemson @ Wake game, and go to NewSpring with Andrew! Such a fun and relaxing break.

Sunday afternoon, Black Betty and I hit the road again, this time on down 85 to Rock Hill. I got to spend some relaxing time at home although I did have to study a good bit. Something about going home put me at such peace despite the workload I unfortunately had to bring with me. I got to see Amanda, the girls from work, Gracie (my next bride-to-be!) and of course..all my family on Thanksgiving! I will admit it was hard to find stuff to talk about besides law school, although it was the LAST thing I wanted to talk about. Your 1L year really does change you! You are constantly looking at life through a legal lens. Oh well!

This past week God has really been teaching me how to be thankful through all circumstances. Life has been pretty tough these past few weeks, yet I have SO much to be thankful for!

Yes, law school is miserable sometimes, but I am privileged to be here.
How many people get to go to law school?
SO hard to think about it that way sometimes (who the heck would wanna be here??), yet I am so joyful I am getting to take the next step towards my dream (cliche, sorry) and that I get to be here.

I have wonderful friends who are constantly encouraging me and loving me right where I'm at, and family that has loved me through all seasons.

Most importantly, I have a savior who has the power to see us through whatever may come our way. He has placed me here for a reason, and is not leaving my side until He is done with the work He has begun in me! What an amazing promise to cling to in times where you feel inadequate and just plain...tired.

Thank you, Jesus! You're what it's all about. Although the football, and the pies (oh the pies!), and the typical thanksgiving stuff is great...you are the greatest!

And for y'all, oh bless your hearts, who are still reading this silly ole blog:

Go ahead and check all the "thank you for" boxes and the "nothing" one at the bottom.

I sure do love ya-
Lizanne

Habakkuk 3:18- yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Psalm 107:21-22-
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
Let them sacrifice thank offerings
and tell of his works with songs of joy.

I Carried...A Watermelon?

Raise your hand if you love (the movie) Dirty Dancing.

Me! Me!

Ok, well for all you DD fans who are crazy for Swayze like myself, remember the famous scene from DD where Baby goes up to the staff quarters to see where all the cool stuff (aka dirty dancing) is happening?

She helps Billy bring in the watermelons and they run into...Johnny.

Here is a reminder for y'all:

Ok well today, in contracts, this totally happened.

(Disclaimer: in NOOOOO WAYYYY am I saying my teacher is the equivalent of Johnny Castle. No way. Ain't happenin'.)

But, today when called on in contracts, I just froze.

I read my facts.

I had my brief with great points.

Then there were questions. Lots of questions. Directed at me...

Did I look down at my brief where the answer was right in front of me?

Or happen to just glance at my casebook where the answers were highlighted?

I tried to articulate all that I knew about econonmic duress and the recission of a contract, but I may as well have just said,

"I carried a watermelon."

Yea! Good one!!! Sure impressed 'em there! ;)

Sooooo thankful for blind grading-

Bigger Than All of It.

So I know November started a week ago, but it didn't really come into light until just this weekend.

IT'S NOVEMBER. I HAVE FINALS IN A MONTH.

From here until December 17th I have to: finish all my (40+ page) outlines for Torts, Criminal, Property, and...ugh...Contracts.

Here is the best explanation of an outline I can find, if you are curious as to what they are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_school_outlines

Then, I have to do practice exams.

Then, I have to take real exams.

Real life, 4 hour, ohmygoshwhydidIpicklawschool exams.

You see, this weekend, I literally spent the whole weekend in SERIOUS study mode. After class was out at 3:30 on Friday, I came home, opened Torts, and got to work. I did my torts outline until midnight. Luckily, Townsend, sweet best friend, was available for texting when I thought I couldn't do any more!!

Ok ok so I may or may not have taken a break to run out and get a milkshake.

My neighbor caught me in my black leggings, grey tennis hoodie from high school, brown danskos, and fully exposed striped wool socks..our elevator moves like molasses..it was awkward.

I blame my parents for making me believe it's totally acceptable to make a PW's run at 9pm in your pajamas.

I still love you. Can we do that over Christmas? Thanks :)

Yesterday, I got to the library at 9 and didn't leave until 8 that night.

Well, I did leave from 12-1 for lunch with my study group. But even then I couldn't stop thinking about school! I got home and for the first time ever, had no idea about any of the football games that were happening. Luckily Andrew was kind enough to text me updates from the high school game that was Clemson/NC State. He's a goodun that one!

See how much he likes me?

When I came home from the library at 8, I made breakfast for dinner and got back to work. I worked until one (in my leggings and socks, if you were wondering) but by-golly I finished my WHOLE Criminal outline! All 35 pages! Whoop!

Then I had a dream that I helped the police bust a robbery.

The stuff really gets in your head, ok?

This morning! This morning, I woke up in a panic because it was light out (thank you, daylight savings) and I thought I had slept through church. Oh no, it was 6:45am! I tried to go back to sleep, but I was too anxious. I laid in bed and realized something pretty profound for me at 6:45 in the morning:

God is bigger than law school.

He is. He is bigger than outlines. He is bigger than 14 hour work days. He is bigger than my torts cases. He is bigger than 4 hour exams. He is bigger than sleepless nights. He is bigger than my fears. He is bigger than law school.

Why is that so hard to get sometimes? Duh, Lizanne!

So you know what happened? I got ready, went to Starbucks, got a pumpkin latte (finally) and I spent some time with my Creator. For the first time in a few days, my head was clear and my thoughts were quieted. I was...still. It was so wonderful! So perfect. So needed. I was reminded yet again why I am here, not only in Macon, but why I am on this earth.

So for those of you are still reading this crazy blog of mine, thanks for supporting me and praying for me..I appreciate it so much! This next month is going to be a crazy one, but I have a feeling it's going to be so sweet too. What is it today you need to be reminded that our God is bigger than?

Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.    -Psalm 27:13

Lots and lots of love,
LA

Happy November!

And it's no longer 90 degrees here in Macon!

November is going to be a stressful month for all of us little 1L's, but..

There are a few main things I am looking forward to in this month (that will be a wonderful break from dreadful outlining):

Two of my favorite people in the whole world are getting married NEXT weekend!  Stephanie and Ryan Lee here we come!
Sooooo excited to reunite with old friends, worship what all Jesus has done, and CELEBRATE such an exciting part of life with the two of them!

THANKSGIVING
Football, my mom's food, cooking and baking, seeing my FAMILY that I have missed so much (SuSu, Em...I hope you both are getting ready!), relaxing and for a few days before I take exams. Wonderful!

Operation Christmas Child!
Probably one of the most fun and rewarding things that I absolutely LOVE to do each year!

Click here to read more about the project! http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/occ (You should click just to see the pictures of the kids holding their gifts. My heart! Have mercy!)

Happy fall, y'all!

America! The Marine Corps Marathon.

This weekend I traveled to DC to watch some of my best friends run in the Marine Corps Marathon with Push America.

Kristi and I ran the 10K and then watched the marathon girls! It was suuuuch a fun and rewarding trip!

Friday night I did schoolwork (I'm cool like that) so that on Saturday I got to:
Leave Macon early in the morning
Drive to the Atlanta airport
Fly to Baltimore
Take a bus to the metro
and, finally, ride the train into DC
This took about 2 hours longer than anticipated due to the Colbert/Stewart rally at the Capital building..my but thankfully I made it to my friends in one piece!
Don't you just love adventure?? :)

We took a cab to pick up our race packets, saw the leftover rally-ers/crazy people, and made it back to our lovely hotel to get ready for our pre-race dinner.
Here we all are, fresh and full after pasta and a pitcher of water each.
Kristi, Jordan, Steph, Ali, and the awkward tall friend/aka me

Then it was race day!
(*disclaimer/warning: no makeup from the next picture on)
Here's Kristi and myself at 6:30 before our 10K race with some friendly Marines
Ok, well actually, I made them take this picture..and Kris and I learned real quick the appropriate pose.

Just getting warmed up at our starting spot..since we just knew we would finish with the Kenyans in under 40 minutes
(This picture is a joke)

Absolutely love this of the sun coming up over the capital building!

After our finish! With our fun teammates at the Push tent.

 Soooo much fun running together!

Then we walked to get Jordan who had ran the first half of the marathon with Steph!
We passed a few great spots along the way..liiiike

Arlington Cemetary

The Lincoln Memorial

The WWII memorial..a personal fave

The Washington Monument
As you can see here, Brandon and Kristi were on a mission. I, on the other hand, was being that annoying tourist/my legs couldn't walk as fast as theirs after running 6 miles.

My main exercise these days is speed reading. Give me a break, okay?

THEN! Oh, then! We made it back to the finish line to witness this...

See the cutie in the orange hat?
Yes, that's stephanie finishing the last 50 yards of TWENTY-SIX Miles!!
Such an amazing moment!
I was proud..so happy...SO excited!

A goal accomplished. A dream come true.

When that happens for someone you love, you get excited!

I believe at this time I was shouting awkward things like
"You go girl!" and "That's my friend!"

That's why they keep me around.

Oh and to be the out-of-place tall girl on the end in pictures...I believe we've already touched on that subject, but here it is again:
                                                           Back at the tent celebrating!

Then Kyle and Jason showed up! Jason is the most precious boy who happens to have Cerebral Palsy. Kyle ran the marathon while pushing Jason.

Awesome, huh?

Such a great and much-needed weekend with some of the best people!

America! Running for a cause! Teamwork!

Now, back to work! Finals are in ONE MONTH! Ahhhhh!!

Lots of love-
Liza

Hebrews 12:1-2a
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
