|Love love Madea! Hilarious.|
Luckily, when we arrived at the "receptionist (who happened to be good friends with a certain mr. winchester) desk" we were informed that Mr. Murderer was in on another visit, so that we wouldn't be able to meet with him until later in the day. Whew. So instead, we checked in to meet with a lady client. For the purposes of confidentiality, we shall call her... Tammy Meth Breath.
Ole Tammy was in jail for drug possession with intent to distribute. PWID as we in the biz call it. Before our meeting, my boss and I had talked about how the solicitor's office obtained certain records against TMB without a warrant. This would lead to her getting out pretty soon, if persued. So I had a little bit of an idea how this meeting might go...
Of course this song was stuck in my head the WHOLE time.
Raise your hand if you loooove you some Chicago! Me!
Anyways, after we made it into the room to meet with the client, I just sat without a word to say.
I watched my boss question TMB about her "situation" as she twitched and scratched her face and ran her fingers through her hair.
I sat and thought about what I would look like after 5 weeks of no hair products.
I tried not to laugh as he counseled... "What? You have a fiancee'? Well I sure hope you don't plan on getting married anytime soon. If you keep on the drugs you'll live til next year, in which you won't be out to walk down the aisle. If you stay off 'em, you can probably get married when you're 45 if I can get you a good plea. Sound good?"
He was playing hard ball.
No mention of the illegal evidence.
No mention of getting out sooner.
Strictly, "You are on drugs and you need help."
I then sat and pondered what I would look like after 5 weeks of no bare minerals and eyeliner.
Then, the 10 minutes were up. And we filed out of the cell block, back to the lockers and fresh daylight.
Then started the typical "Lizanne has a million questions" dialogue.
Bless him, he's used to it by now.
Why do they hold drug offenses in max?
Where is her little boy?
CAN YOU IMAGINE MY HAIR WITHOUT PRODUCT IN IT??!!
Then, I asked the most pressing question on my little brain: why he didn't tell TMB that little piece of info, and why he wasn't rushing for a Pre-Trial hearing to get the client out of jail sooner? Wasn't that the point you big shot criminal defense attorney you?
"Because, she needs to sit in the tank and sober up. She needs to learn her lesson. Then maybe she can get out. It's about a lot more than getting put out on the street just to kill yourself."
I learned a lot in those 30 minutes.
But I still don't think criminal law is for this girl.
Even if they do wear orange.
